Slave Girls From Beyond Infinity — Slave Girls From Beyond Infinity(Blu Ray)
Slave Girls From Beyond Infinity( aka Slave Girls) was made in 1987, though at times it feels like it could have been made well before this- say from the 1950s onwards. Really what set it apart from Sci-fi pulp of the golden age are the odd glances of female nudity & the knowing/ tongue-firmly-in- cheek dialogue. The film was the 7th & to date last film directed by one Ken Dixon, who seemingly made soft-core & clip-based films. On the whole, the film is competently enough filmed- though clearly the budget was around the price of a few tubes cheese & onion Pringles.
The film begins with chained & skimpy bikini glad Daria (Elizabeth Kaitan) and Tisa (Cindy Beal), escaping from a prison spaceship. The first planet they come across seemingly has an earth-like atmosphere, and fairly soon the pair crash land making their way from a beach, through a clearly studio based jungle, to a polystyrene blocked building- that looks like it’s meant to be Mayan temple. This is the lair of raven haired & big jawed Zed(Don Scriber)- who first seems helpful/ friendly, but turns out to be a derange big game hunter- who has decided to start hunting humans.
The acting, aside from Scriber, is really very flat & lifeless- and this at times lets some of the amusing lines fall flat, and at moments things drag a little. Though for the most it’s the runtime of just over hour & twenty wizzes back well enough. We get bickering robots- that are clearly men in bad/ lo-priced fancy dress, and very low budget effects & obvious miniatures- all wrapped in silly/ camp dialogue, ham-fisted action scenes, and clichéd pulp sci-fi plotting. The only sort-of actor here is Scriber- who nicely hams it up as the black leather trouser wearing villain. On the whole, it’s a film where you have to just switch off your brain/ sense for, and if you do you’ll have a lot of fun with the trashy 80’s cheese that is Slave Girls From Beyond Infinity.
Moving onto this recent Blu ray- and first off the picture looks ok here, though unfortunately, the remastering does make the whole thing look if more cheap/ bad in its effects/ set-up. The only extra here. Aside from original trailer & Full Moon trailer reel, it is a six-minute featurette on Elizabeth Kaitan.
It’s great to see Full Moon reissuing another slice of prime 1980’s Sci-fi/ B movie cheese with this Blu Ray of Slave Girls From Beyond Infinity- it’s just a pity there isn't really any extras on this Blu ray. It would have been great to have a commentary track from someone like David DeCoteau and David Del Valle, as I’m sure they would have had a lot of laughs & facts to pull up about this movie.
