Skellaten — Pretend 2 B nice

Skellaten is a one piece female noise project from kelso Washington and Pretend 2 B nice is the projects first cdr full length after a few tapes and compilation tracks. And you’ll be glad to know there’s nothing nice or wholesome in here as the title might hint, this is ear melting and pain boring noise all the way.

On offer here are 11 tracks each hitting around the two to three minute a piece. The tracks are a mix of what seems to be overloaded and corrupted music samples, advert jingles, general sonic flotsam and jetson. Along with lengthy submerges in boiling and mushroom clouds of static overload and noise fries. There definitely a feeling of been overloaded and drowned in the moderns worlds endless sonic swamp of adverts, aimless chitchat, lifeless soaps and meaningless pop records about the album.  With recognizable melodies, sounds and bent voices flaying and burring in Skellaten sonic boiling pot, almost like she trying to set alight to this often crushing reality and restart again.

It’s nice to see another female artist stepping up and make noise in this sadly male dominated genre, &  through this is not the most original noise record your likely to come across the tracks are nicely dense, caustic and overwhelming  enough to satisfy ones need for a good sonic boiling & overload.
