Sissy Spacek — RIP

“RIP” is a rapid ‘n’ searing slice of noisy  improv concrète from grindcore, caustic improv & jump cut USA noise terrorist Sissy Spacek. For this recording the project is made up of John Wiese, Jesse Jackson & Corydon Ronnau. With guest appearances from members of the Yellow Swans, Peter Kolovos(Open City) & Paul Costuros( Death Sentence: Panda!).

The album conists of just ten tracks, and these last between just over a minute to just under the five & a half minute mark. The ablum is built from studio & live recordings from  April 2008.  The tracks here are as one would expect fairly manic, if a little text book examples, of the collectives noisy & jarringly cut-up improv sound. The first half of the album focuses in on mainly jarring cuts of all manner of percussive matter; be it gong tone, broken drum machine clutter, cymbal slices, speed-up junk matter, backwards piano hits, and all manner of sped-up & chopped up sound matter.  The second half of the album seems  slightly slower, stretched & at times it mushers/blurs  the jump-cuts into a slightly more seared & at times instrumental textural lined setting. This half of the album is much more rewarding in it’s sonic detail,  dips ‘n’ peaks of noise layers, & even some jolted ‘n’ looped musical textures.

Another exhilarating & seared attack on the sonic sensors from Sissy Spacek- with the first half been head spinning manic though a little clichéd, and the second half been slightly more slowed,  considered, spaced & clever in it’s attack.
