Sihir — Spirit Manifestation
[Self Released — 2019]★★★★★

Spirit Manifestation is the most recent release from Sihir- one of the more recent projects from uber prolific & multiple projects linked French noise maker Julien Skrobek. The self-released C10 tape offers up two side-long tracks, that sit somewhere between textured noise and dense suffocating ambeince- which all very much fits the releases themes ghosts/ supernatural.
The plain black shelled cassette appears in a monochrome sleeve- this features on its front cover a picture of two ghostly nun type figures walking along a wall. With inside minimal text inside detailing the release, and web-links. I’m not sure how many copies were made of this, so I’m not really sure if it’s still available or not.So the first side tracks is entitled “First Séance”. Here the tracks built around a rapidly hissing and subtly squawking layer of tone, continually tumbling grain judder, and crisp boiling. Togeather these textures create a nice feeling of nocturnal tension and taut uneasy.
Moving onto the second side, and “Second Séance”- we find a mesh of rumbling ‘n’ bubbling textures, set against a decidedly chilling hissing tone. Again there’s a nicely uneasy nocturnal feel to proceedings here-but for this track definitely feels a lot murkier & more blunt in its textural feel/sound.
I must say I was somewhat underwhelmed by the last Sihir release I 'd heard- so it was nice to be pleasantly surprised by this new release. If you enjoy the more atmosphere bound ‘wallish’ ventures like Geisst, I think you’ll enjoy what Mr. Skrobek has to offer on this C10 tape.
