Scorch Trio — Brolt
To begin with the album knocks you straight off your feet with pounding, muscular and complex jazzed punked rock groove underpinned with funky bass groove and sinister air. As the album progresses the pace is kept fairly break neck, vibrate and powerful, but there also the odd track that detours into slightly calmer more expansive and sometimes stranger waters. The trio really performing a breathtaking feat through-out of mixing some many different genres traits and textures together and doing it all with the fairly ltd sonics of the guitar, bass and drums format. But at no point do you feel their getting too clever or showing off, they clearly understand this still has to be entertaining, atmospheric and very replayable.
A real beast of a complex yet ego-less rock album that stays surprising, energetic and rewarding through-out. Been both muscular, thought provoking and often quite harmonic, this is intelligent instrumental rock music with no pretensions and is really unmissble .
