Sabbat — A History Of Time to come

Following on from the reissue of Sabbat’s second album, this their debut album gets similar treatment. With an extended booklet featuring old flyers/artwork and interviews ect,and extra tracks coming in the form of live version of four tracks from the album.

Where Dreamweaver seemed somehow timeless and fresh, sadly History of time to come sounds very much of it’s time. Martin Walkyier vocals  though starting to sound different still have too much in common with a 100's of other trash and metal singers- at times almost sounding a little like early Dave Mustaine. And the musically back again is starting to show interesting edges, but it’s for the most part rather formulaic  if competent  trash craft meets NWOBM with dark fantasy elements. The songs start and finish in much the same way, there’s none of the complexity's and riff acrobatics that appeared on Dreaweaver, sadly there’s little of  Dreamweaver’s atmosphere either. The songs chugging into each other with little change of pace or texture- this is just prime head banging country with little to challenging or puzzle the mind.

All in all a competent enough  played and  written debut album with some memorable enough early 90’s trash meets British metal craft. Worth picking up to hear the bands first audio blood; just don’t expect a masterpiece or a great revelation.
