Rush Falknor — In The Light of Lucifer, Bearing All of My Knowled

In The Light of Lucifer, Bearing All of My Knowledge is a CDR release collecting together the crude, often clamouring, and lo-fi experimental touched Black Metal demos of Rush Falknor- a Florida sound maker, who normally focuses on wonkier ‘n’ stuck together noise composition.

This CDR appears on Busey Teeth- which is run by long-time noise scenester Joe The Stache(Hoggle, Pig Shrapnel, Extreme Chafing, Planet Shithead). The CDR comes presented in a slimline case- this features monochrome images and red text packaging- on the front there’s a man stripped to his waist in snow, holding a bat (Falknor I’m guessing), and on the back the same man, once again stripped to the waist, standing in front of a canon at night-time. Inside we have a glossy inlay, with blacked metal texts detailing the eight tracks featured here. The release has a hand number of twenty-five copies, and the label still has copies- head here for more. It was previously released early in 2021 as a cassette release on JEMS 

Featured here are two demos from two different projects- so four tracks per demo/ project, but it does need to be noted each of the tracks here are very short- lasting between just under a minute nearing three minutes…so neither the tracks, nor the release itself is very long, though Falknor does manager to add both creative flare/ variation.

Apparently, all the tracks here date from between 2013 and 2014. So the first set of tracks come from the project DIOV, and we kick off with “The King Resides Below”- it opens with battering cardboard boxes drums, clamouring tremolo riffing, and shrill icy baying vocals, at the forty-five-second mark it cuts out to a blend of grimly spacey synth’s and more stretched out & chilly shriek. We have the smashing cymbal chaos and rapid billowing riff grim-ness of “Revomiting” with the track finishing with a few seconds of cold noise texturing flange. Finally, we have “Calling For Christ” which does open with a billowing riff similar to the previous track, before soon collapsing into ten seconds of baying shrieks and grimily fluttering tone.

Next, we have four tracks from the wonderfully named Handcuffed Underwater. These kick-off with the longest track of the release “Sinking”- which comes in at just shy of the three-minute mark. It’s built around a mix of deep oil drum-like ritual hits, cymbal smash, and ritual percussive detail- with no guitars or blacked vocals. After this we have the messily battering drums, flaying blacked guitar tone and at points fairly high baying shrieks of “Your Lungs Flood As You Struggle”. With the demo/ release been topped off with glumly thumb bass stark-ness, chopping oil drum, cold splashing reverb hits, and later subtle malevolent ambience of “Your Lifeless Body Descends/Darkness”.

Both demos highlight Falknor creative flair for the black metal form, and it’s very much a release that leaves you wanting him much more in the genre from Falknor….but as these recordings date from seven or so years back, I wouldn't have thought that’s going to likely. Nevertheless good on Joe and Busey Teeth for uncovering, and releasing these two demos- if you enjoy your BM short, crude, and often quite experimental edged- you’ll be wanting to check this release out.
