Roro Perrot — Blotto Folk
The release comes in the form of a c40 that features two sides of music, which mixers together wavering organ sustains & cack-handed/ rudimentary guitar strums ‘n’ bays. Theses are liberally dobbed ‘n’ splattered with Perrot’s deranged & at times quite disturbing wails, moans & rants.
This new tape features slightly longer/ more structured pieces than I’ve heard from this project in the past. And though Perrot’s guitar playing is far, far from great, he mangers to make this oddly entertaining with it’s perverse sort of rough-up creative charm. The tracks move from dank wavering organ marchers with sustained moans, Onto speedy & rabid guitar strums pock marked with manic rants. Over to jagged discordant guitar strums & mad-man moans, through to skittering discordant strums & vocal bays, over to masturbatory & building in speed guitar claws/slaps with unsettling pleasured moans over the top. Through to wondering guitar picks & pokes over out-of-tune yet oddly sentimental wails, and beyond. As I said early it’s really Perrot determination to push his fairly simply set up(mostly just acostic guitar & vocals) into more ugly, unwell & sometimes violent shapes that makes this so strangely appealing.
I must say that I rather enjoyed both sides of “Blotto Folk”, and I can certainly recommend it to those looking for something truly demented & wonky. This tape is relatively ltd at 100 copies, so if you do fancy picking this up do it sooner, than latter & it can be picked-up direct from Perrot’s website here
