Robert Vincs — Devic Kingdom
It all opens up with the wonderfully jarring and off-kilter title track which mixes stop-start percussion, weaving and strange bass & fairlight magic, which seems to move like liquid across the complex rhythmic shuffles and cut-up tribal elements. As Vincs Sax spurts pure soaring beauty ever so often over the morphing and alien base. Later on we have Sanatorium Lake, were Vincs sax rise like a majestic and sad bird from the ambient sun going down haze, he weaves wonderfully emotive and pained patterns from his instrument. On Body with out organs, he pushes out strange anglar honks and bends of sound, modified electrically to sound like some kind of strange bent harmonic machine talk, like old going wrong robot talking amongst them self’s as thier power source slips in and out.
Through out the just over 45 minute playing time Vincs is always experiment, matching the jarring and the beautiful perfectly. But he never over steps the musical mark into improvised meltdown, and making sure it still hangs onto structure and harmonic charm.
