RDKPL — XXX
XXX severs up two tautly textured walls from this Czech project. Each runs around the ten-minute mark, and each is as tense/ airless as the other.
This is a digital-only release on London’s HNW net label, which is run/ created by long-running wall noise scenester James Shearman. The cover art takes in pictures of wooden boards and minimal text.
Apparently, both of the tracks here are from one take live/ live tracks. So we open with “260325_06”, which is built around an extremely taut line of tensioned crackle 'n' pop. In one's mind's eye, you can almost see a line of electricity arcing between two points, with one almost being able to smell/ taste seared ozone. It’s a relatively simple selection of textures- but the ‘wall’ is damn entrancing, meaning I could have easily played this track for thirty to forty minutes.
The other track here is “260325_08”. Here we find a tense mix of continually rolling hiss, pop, judder, and churning. At points, it seems the ‘wall’ gets tangled up in itself, though I’m not sure if this is just a trick of the ‘wall’. There’s a rewarding feeling of manic overload about this track. It’s not as entrancing as the previous ‘wall’, but I do like the brain-frying tangling it up in your self-feel.
XXX is another decent EP from RDKPL- featuring two effective, taut, at points brain frying examples of the walled noise form.
