PinnipedFixation Without Resolve

[HNW Netlabel — 2024]
Reviewed 28 August 2024by Roger Batty

Pinniped is a German project that creates noise/ ambient themed around seals. Fixation Without Resolve mixes lightly glowing arctic ambience with textured noise & walled noise- to a moody to battering effect.

The release is a digital affair appearing on the UK’s HNW netlabel. With cover artwork featuring a picture of a seal rolling halfway over. Drop in here to give the track a play/ download it.

As far as I can gather this project has been active since April of 2024- releasing around twenty releases to date thus far- these have all been digital.  This is my first taster of its work, and I must say I’m impressed by what I hear, and can really see it appealing to those who enjoy where ambience & noise meet.

The single track here “I Shouldn’t Think About You” comes in at dead on the twenty-five-minute mark. It opens with a blend of lightly harmonic glow ambience, which is underfed by these light-swirling ice wind subtones. As the track progresses the noise elements start to expand.

At around the 8th minute there is a line of galloping hack that appears – as the other element continues- these are soon joined by a haphazard sort buffteing bays, and whooshing.  Then by the thirteenth minute, more keener/ denser bass battering is added into mix- you can just hear the ambience- but it’s very faint, with now a layered and icy weathered bound vibe to the track.

Fixation Without Resolve is a most worthy mix of atmospherics & noise intensity. I’ll most certainly be checking out more of the project's past work now, and will keep my eye out for new work.
