Pink Wool — Matriarch
Matriarch serves up two short, extremely searing shots of walled noise from this Oregon-based project. Each track hits dead on the ten-minute mark, and each is as intense as the other.
This is a digital-only release on Arizona’s Outsider Industries. For cover art, we get an inverted illustration of an old woman on an antique spinning wheel.
The first track is “Flecked Yarn”. This is a constant/ rapidly reeling blend of baying bass drone & buzzing churn, with a few muffled subtone pulls & drags. It sounds akin to the drastic failing of some piece of large machinery- as cogs & rollers fall into each other.
The second track is “Pure Wool”- texturally/ tonally this isn’t that different from the first track. But the main thing is it all feels more amped-up, dense and rapid. If the first track was the falling apart of a machine, this is the complete & utter collapse of the building it’s in. Truly an intense & ultra-overwhelming take on the wall form.
Matriarch is a totally unrelenting and unforgiving trip into the HNW form. So hold on tight, and get ready for split nails & bloody/ ragged finger tips.
