Pink Wool — Limbic System & Nostalgia
Limbic System & Nostalgia finds this Oregon-based project serving a thirty-minute slice of compacted & bass-bound walled noise. The whole thing has a wonderful constricting at times crude, quality about it, feeling akin to being wrapped in a thick blanket as a bunch of horses constantly gallop over you.
The release is a digital affair appearing on South Carolin’s Dyning Monolithic HNW. The monochrome/ lo-fi cover art feels like the collusion of The Wizard Of OZ, and grimy 70’s porn as we see a witch-like hand seemingly casting a spell, with the result being a splashing puddle of thick semen.
The single track here is entitled “Something With Poison” which slides in just under the thirty-minute/thirty-second mark. The ‘wall’ blends muddy yet rapid bass churn and hacking mid-range static- with a mix of rolling, constantly cracking subtone detail. The whole thing just feels so dense & pressing in its weight- yet both the hack, and the subtone detail really pulls you into the track
I could easily have listened to this track for twice it's lenght, which is always a positive with a wall noise track. I so enjoyed the blend of ribcage-crushing weight and rewarding detail.
Pink Wool has only been active since last year, but so far they’ve released a decent body of work, with some quite original/ interesting themes- like high frequency/ warming radio-wave treatment and pink sweaters/ jumpers. If you dig ultra-thick, yet engaging walls, Limbic System & Nostalgia will fit just right.
