Pink Wool — Diathermy II
Diathermy II is a decidedly entrancing slice of walled noise- blending soothing bass purrs, skittering-yet mellow static grain rubs, and a generally comfy feel. This is digital release takes in a single thirty two minute track from this Oregon-based project, which started last year.
A quick search of the net finds that Diathermy is either high frequency/ warming radio-wave treatment, used in surgeries and to treat muscle pain- so the prefect title for this rather relaxing wall. The cover artwork features a black and white inversed mask picture- which I’m guessing has something to do with Diathermy.
The single track brings together a constantly rolling bass purr and a selection of steady static rubs. These are topped with a distant hammer quality, as well as a few rattling & purring subtones. Weaved these create such a nicely soothing and comfy ‘wall’, which feels akin to slowly wrapped in huge lengths of cotton wool.
This must be the third or so release I’ve heard from Pink Wool, and once again I’m impressed/ taken by it. So I’ll now be egger to check out more of their work down the line, as they most certainly are one of the more consistent( both textually and theme wise) project to appear on the wall scene in recent times
