Peste Noire — La Sanie des siècles - Panégyrique de la dégénéres
The band that first came to mind on playing this; the bands first album was early Necromantia because of the musics punked lo-fi feel with the often detours into creative and quirky primeval territory just like Necromantia Debut album Crossing the Fiery Path. But Pest Noire tread their own very unique path with the songs through sounding grim and grange jam rough in places are alive with memorable / atmospheric riffs, damned and quirky turns and creative if at times cheesey use of field/ horror sound recordings.
Favourite moments are difficult because every track here has its memorable quirk or edge, But a few that come to mind would be: the instrumental opener Nous Sommes Fanés with a demented guitar waltz that turns cold black metal meets surf guitar curls. Dueil Angoisseus (Christine De Pisan, 1362-1431) with it’s jagged and wavering yet dramatic opening guitar stumble like Neil young latter day guitar scorch gone black, which is undertied with weird watery field recordings. But before it's kicks into a highly memorable metallic riff that's licked with clear and elegant guitar elements and great demented joint blacked metal gurgles and rants.
The album was original released back in 2006 but seemingly went out a print fairly quirky. So it’s great to have this back in print as it’s a thoroughly wortwhile original, enjoyable, replayble and blackly quirky slice of blacked metal.
