Panic — Shanda Sharer
The release is themed around the disturbing murder of 12 year old Shanda Renee Sharer in early 1992 in Madison, Indiana, USA. Sharer was kidnapped by a group of four teen age girls, then she was tortured, stabbed, then lastly burned alive. Not unsurprisingly the case attracted US nationwide attention.
The release comes in a mini CDR case that features dark & murky picture of stabbed female, and inside the case there’s a short write up about the case along with mug shots of the two teen age girls who tortured & murdered Sharer.
Each track here takes it’s name from the two teen girls that carried out the atrocity- so track one is entitled “Melinda”, and track two is entitled “Laurie”. The first track comes in at just shy of the fourteen minute mark and is built around a mixture of muffled billowing ‘n' battering drone matter. This is played over by rushing & brutal chilled juddering shards of mid ranged & crackle pointed noise. In it’s last 6 or so minutes it thins down to a machine like drone & a crackling/ crisper line of walled noise- this calms things a little, but it’s still very stark & chilling in it’s unfold. It certainly is a truly hopeless & unrelenting piece of walled noise.
The second track comes in at the 7.20 mark, and this offers up an unmoving mixture of buried rotation industrial drone matter that is played over by a crisp ‘n’ crunchy descending judder. Again this is another truly unrelenting bit of bleak walled noise, but with a more muffled/ buried industrial edge to it. I think out of the two tracks I prefer the first track as it seems a little more entrancing & cruel in it’s intent.
On the whole this is a very unforgiving & brutal 3inch, with both tracks pining you down & battering the hell out of you. It’s not as successful as some true crime based walled noise I’ve come across, but if your after fairly un-complicated & coldly brutal walled noise this is worth a look
