Obsidian Cross — Obsidian Cross 100

Here’s a release that ties together unrelentingly juddering wall noise with distant, harmonically edged ambient. It’s not clear where the projects from, but the release appears on London’s HNW label- so we know it’s going to be of a certain standard.

The cover artwork is a day-glow pink-coloured collage, taking in what looks like inverted children's swings, buildings with searchlights, and a tower block set city sky.

The self-titled track runs at just over the twenty-six-minute mark. And it’s bringing together a dense blend of chalky juddering, hacking hiss, and distant constantly glamouring descent. Underneath it all is this steadily circling and ebbing golden ambient tone- which is both warming, harmonic and graceful- though for most of the track, you can barely make it, aside from the last few minutes or so when it spirals and twinkles.
