Monolithic Torment — Unwanted

Unwanted sees Eugene, Oregon based Monolithic Torment severing up an hours worth of rewardingly judder ‘n’ crackle bound walled-noise. The release is a digital self-release, and it's the projects first release of 2012- and from the evidence here it looks like this fairly new project is still offering up entrancing & textural rewarding wall matter.

Monolithic Torment has been active since around 2019- putting out so far an impressive coming on for forty releases- both digital downloads & a few physical releases. Behind the project is Cory Aideen- whose other projects are Root Cellar, Submachine Gun and Massive Panic Attack. And I must say I’ve been pretty impressed with everything I’ve heard from any of Aideen’s projects.

The track here comes in at sixteen seconds over the hour mark, and is entitled “Why?”. The ‘wall’ is thick & lumbering affair, which is centred around a deep muddy judder- on top of these we have these smaller snapping-to-scraping textures. The low-end is nicely dense & meaty in it’s crude juddering patterns, and the smaller textures move between sound slightly insect-like & subtle ear canal scraping. Over the tracks hour runtime, Aideen keeps the whole thing largely focused & unstoppable in its attack, though at points I’m sure the smaller top layer textures shift- but this, of course, could just be an illusion.

The mix between the layers is well controlled & realized- with the sluggish & blunt low-end taking up much of the sonic picture, and the smaller textural details are kept slightly less clear/ defined. Meaning you get sucked deeper into the whole thing, so you can at least attempt to chart this elements path. All in all “why?” is another well constructed & rewardingly textured ‘wall’ from Aidee.

As mentioned in my intro Unwanted is a digital download- so if like to sample it/ download it head over here ,and while you are there do check out Aidee’s other walls, as her work is most consistently rewarding wall-craft.
