Mad Ep — The Madlands Trilogy

The most amazing thing about this collection of ep’s that make up the Madlands trilogy is the of amount  diffrent sound and textured on offer from; pumped up almost breackcore like beats, hip- hop nods,string led beat cinematics, to jazzy late night chilled  beats. To more ambient drifts, to lo fi analogy synth dwell, to modern classic flourishers. As well as all manner of interesting tucks and fold of sound in nearly every track.

The three disk collection brings  together 7 years  and  145 minutes of  work from New York-based classical musician and electronic composer  Matthew Peters.  Every track is it’s own little adventure , there’s all ways so much going on; be it textural or with in emotion depth. The thing that makes you want to revist this   offten is Peters ability to  write well divined and interesting sound works, within what ever genre he chooses, carving memorable and emotion sniged melodies. Atmospherics  audio cinescapes and damn fine beats.

It's difficult to pick favourite moments as there so much to like, but a few of mine are: Salamander Blue which mixes  hip-hop beat work with almost Spanish guitar, haunted synth work, Dj twist and turns of sounds and eerier female  vocals that  go from sounding almost Arabic to sensual moans. The lapping ambient tones I thought I saw you dieing- which develops  into more divined and slow moving almost electro come jazzy beat work. With exotic flute samples slicing the air and all manner of building electro atmosphere. The slow ghost of the nightime jazzy bass rumbling and trumpet tones of Accounting for wasted breath- with it’s environmental sound mattering back ground and electronic tones. Really there’s too much to choose from.

With this collection Peters has  shown he can compete and often out ran some of the great cinematic  beatscape makers and soundtrack composers. One of most varied and enjoyable effortless albums of the year.
