Lord Cernunnos — Memories Of Space

Memories Of Space is a single forty-six-minute example of the walled noise form, which is all about layers of slowly shifting rumble 'n' churn. As its title suggests, it very much brings to mind the slow/steady flow of a spaceship, with the subtle undertones of dark unease suggesting either something steadily growing in the darkness, or something malevolent awaiting at the end of their journey.

The Lord Cernunnos project is from Everett, Washington, and has seemingly been active since around 2011, with early releases having more of an ambient/ drone setting. All of the project's releases are either focused on nature or Anime themes, and on the project's Bandcamp, there are a good few releases up for offer….and according to Discogs, they've released nearly 600  releases- so very prolific. I’ve now reviewed a few of the project releases, and I've enjoyed what I’ve heard. This new release appears on Portland’s Basement Corner Emissions- it’s a digital-only affair, which can be found here.

The single track comes in at dead on the forty-six-minute mark. The ‘wall’ is built around a blend of constantly rolling low-end,  a slightly knock-bound rumble, and a series of subtones, taking in rumbling rolls, purring bass weight, and crisp purr. It’s a fairly simple-made ‘wall’, but it’s no less effective in its rumble & roll flow.

Memories Of Space is ideal for those looking for spaced out/ slightly darkly toned walling- with the whole thing sitting towards the ANW side of things, though that said, the bass tones can be quite pressing at times.
