Lord Cernunnos/ Hana Haruna — Geologic Time
Here’s a wall noise split with a mountain focus bringing together two US projects. We have Everett, Washington’s Lord Cernunnos, and Portland’s Hana Haruna. Both ‘walls’ come in at dead on the twenty three minute mark- the first been billowing, grinding & droning, and the second is all hissing ‘n’ churning in its sub-zero attack.
This is a digital only release on Portland’s Basement Corner Emissions- who have been a long term releaser/ supporter of the wall noise scene. The cover artwork is a picture of a hazy & blue mountain scape- which of course is most fitting for the theme of this release.
So up first we have Lord Cernunnos track, which is entitled “Olympic Mountains Part II”. The ‘wall’ blends a slightly ragged/ galloping low end, a steady hissing grind, and a set-penetrating billow. It very much feels akin to slowly drilling into the huge rock face of a towering mountain with a massive machine- as the wind evenly batters & bays. The textural blend is well realized with the heaviness of the low end working well with the other elements- to creating a nicely entrancing ‘wall’
The second track here is of course from Hana Haruna, and is entitled “Cordilleran Glacial Maximum”. For this track we find a mix of tight churning hack and hissing ‘n’ skating slice- with a distant undercarriage rumbling shift. The slice is central focus here, and at points it gets decidedly searing/ nausea nerve clearing in it’s attack- but as soon as you adjust to this, you can start to lock in and follow the other textures. The tracks titles fits perfectly- as there is most certainly a icy feel to this one.
Geologic Time severs up two well theme fitting ‘walls’- all in all making for a rewarding split.
