Lisa Gerrard — The best of Lisa Gerrard

Lisa Gerrard’s work both as part of the seminal Dead can dance and later solo work has a very distinctive feel and personality. It falls some where between world music, classical, soundtrack and rich ambient sound painting. This career spanning retrospective shows some of her most breathtaking, rich and powerful moments.

Truly she has one of those voices unlike anyone else, it soars and swoops, emitting such emotion power and  often subtle beauty. It like a cross between classical almost operatic singing, world influenced phasing and vocal sounds, but never in a shrill or awkward manner, really It flows like pure silk . Theres also no studio trickery or filters  used on her voice, as one of the live tracks here breathing taking illustrates.

The musical backing is equally impressive it’s an elegant often darkly tip mix of strings, piano and rich harmonics and tips towards rhythmic world flavoured music. The tracks here seem split fairly equally between her work with Dead can dance and her solo work which has included sound track work for the likes of Gladiator and Ali. All selected by Gerrard her self, instead of some faceless record company executive, giving the feeling a lot of thought and understanding  has gone into the track selection and sequencing.

Really if you have any interest in soundtrack, lush ambience or just want to be sooth, or want to be  awe inspired by beautiful melodic music you need this. Pure musically wonder and elegance, and one of the most impressive and quilty bound 'Best of's' your likely to come across
