La Goccia D'Acqua — Death In Séance

Death In Séance is the second release from La Goccia D'Acqua- the atmospheric & bone-chilling walled noise project of Paris based Julien Skrobek (Sadistic Fall,The Killer Came From The Bronx ,Ghost, The Sandman Wears A Mask, Ruine, Butch Bag). All of this projects releases are themed around Mario Brava’s early 1960’s classic Italian anthology horror movie Black Sabbath, and in particular the third or first story in the movie(depending on which version of the film you watch) which details the tale of a nurse who steals a ring from a dead medium, and starts to thinking she’s been stalked by the mediums ghost.

The CDR comes in the Altar Of Waste house styled clear DVD case that takes in a doubled sided cover. The cover here features creepy stills of the mediums ghost. The CDR takes in two length tracks, each of  these each runs around the twenty to thirty minute mark, and both are great examples of creep & atmospheric wall-craft.

First up we have “Duty Nurse”, and this track opens with an eerier sample from the movie that takes in the sound of a cat, a rain stom, and some Italian dialogue. With-in a minute or so the ‘wall’ seeps in, and it’s a mixture of distant ‘n’ creepy rain storm rumble which is played over by map of actively & urgent mass of jittering, skipping, and crackling noise texturing. This map of textures is made up of a densely packed weave of thinner static tones, and jointly these creating this great feeling of feasting creepy-ness .  The tracks main structure remains fixed & firm through-out, though there are a few subtle shifts on the layers levels from time to time.  All told it's a very compelling bit of atmospheric wall-craft that mangers to enthralling & also creepy you out.

Second up we have "Milly’s Fright"- it again starts with a sample, and this time is a mixture of dramatic sound tracking scoring, cat meowing & panicked Italian dialogue. Once again the ‘wall’ comes in around the minute mark, and it seems to be utilizing similar sonic building blocks from the first track, but this time everything is blurred into an muffled 'n' crude wall of sound. You can make out the storm rumble,  but this has been blunted to a distant engine idling noise. And the map of textures having lost all their definition & character, and now roll-out as dense crackling juddering ‘n’ jittering mass of sound.  Once again this tracks most effective been a more blunt & crude take on atmospheric wall-craft

So in summing up this is a very worthy slice of atmospheric walled noise, with a creepy & horror fed edge.  I really like the contrast between the crisp & more detailed first track, and the  cruder second track.  This release came in a edition of 15 copies, and according to Altar Of Wastes site there are still copies left…so if your into more moody yet still brutally wall-craft this is a must have!.
