Koobaatoo Asparagus — Static Terrain

Static Terrain is a forty-minute slice of crudely galloping ‘n’ nastily spluttering HNW from this highly prolific and long-running Californian project. It’s a simple/ no-nonsense example of the form.

This is a digital download on the project's own No Skinny Jeans label. For its cover art, we get a photo of large rock-filled cages- which look like they are surrounding a barren valley of some form.

The single self-titled track brings together a set ‘n’ rapid low-end gallop, which is wrapped around by a slightly spluttering static tone. The ‘wall’ feels akin to being on a rough 'n' ready conveyor belt of a rock processing machine- you never get to the grinding & bone-breaking jaws of the thing- you just keep going round and round as the rocks vibrate, shake, and roughly tumble around you.

For the last decade and a half, Koobaatoo Asparagus has been focusing on releasing unforgiving & unrelating wall noise. Static Terrain is another worthy sonic brick in his discography, which has now gone way over the four-release mark.
