Koobaatoo Asparagus /Absurd Reality — Sadist Hunter
Sadist Hunter is a wall noise split bringing together two US projects. Both tracks are around the nine-and-a-half minute mark, and each is as brutally/ ragging as the other. This is a digital release.
Cover artwork-wise we have monochrome illustrations of what looks like someone trying to hold someone else down- with possibly a strand of barbwire between the two people. The release can be found here.
First, out the gate, we have a track from California’s Koobaatoo Asparagus entitled “Out-Of-Body Experience”. The project has been active for fifteen or so years- put out nearly four hundred releases to date. The track here brings together a rapid ‘n’ constantly rolling roar, with jittering ‘n’ crisp sawing static. The two elements are bound together to create a simplistic but unforgiving sense of seared intensity.
The second track is from Absurd Reality entitled “bludgeoned in theyre sleep”( as written on the release bandcamp). This project has been active since 2022- to date put out thirty-plus releases. Behind the project is South Carolina-based Krys Marshall, of Visceral and noise label Filthy Sounds Recordings. This track finds a muffled rolling billow- topped with a blend of grainy-like train track roll & tight clutter, with sub-tones of rattle ‘n’ spin. With this weird droning element being heard ever so often- it has a rather vocal humming quilty to it- but it's never fully defined. There is a feeling of both crudeness and burrowing intensity behind the track- and I’d say this is the best of the two tracks here, as it’s trying something slightly different.
Sadist Hunter is a decent enough intense walled-noise release. I’m very familiar with the work of Koobaatoo Asparagus, but this is my first taster of Absurd Reality- I’ll most certainly be checking more out.
