Joe Lally — There To Here
He seems to have mixed his bass way up high, so when other instruments appear it’s almost as if there recorded in another room, which does leave it with a rather one side feel, well two sided if you count Lally's vocals. Never the less I do find Lally’s vocal word play enjoyable, he also mangers to mixes up a nice laid back feel with edgy twitching structures , that dip there toes in bluesy edges, striped down bassy rock , punky nods and uptight pop sentiments. It almost feels like a more socially aware They Might Be Giants striped of all the finery, at times.
I enjoyed this more than I expected to and you may find your self doing so too. Maybe next time Lally could let his musically buddies have a bit more playing time and add some of thier elements to the songs.
