Hey Colossus — Happy Birthday
The album is one big and heavy sounding riff attack after another that are often littered with ranted/ effect peddle mofyied vocal elements and feedback textures. The sound here is of crusted and monolithic guitars, waveing deep bass tones and effect peddles- the pace going from slowly, muddy and doomy to quite fist bounding ‘n’ head banging metalized punk groove. And while I rather enjoyed a lot of what Happy Birthday had to offer, I just wished they’d throw in a bit more variation into sonic textures and the odd surprise or sudden/bizarre turn into their sound, because at times it feels a little bit too predictable and safe.
A rough ‘n’ ready riff feast of an album that builds up some great hypnotic and heavy vibes- it’s just a pity they couldn’t have add in more twist and turns and sonic surprise’s along the way. But if your after heavy and repetitive huge riffs then Happy Birthday will make you feel like it’s your birthday.
