Hatchet For The Honeymoon — Innocent Prey
Hatchet For The Honeymoon are a Texas based male & female duo who make rewardingly detailed and textural moving HNW matter. The two piece project consists of: Ella Einsmire(E.E.E., Femme Under Plastic, S.S. Electronics, Viking Movement, Watch Me When I Kill) and Jonas Teunissen (RapeCity & Massacre In Dinosaur Valley).
The project is of course named after Mario Bava’s highly influential 1972 movie which set many of the rules and tone for 1980’s slasher films. And this release takes it’s name & gory stills from 1984 Us/ Australia slasher film ‘Innocent Prey’- which featured PG Soles(who's most famous role was in John Carpenters original Halloween) and a plot about A woman living in Dallas discovers that her husband, from New Zealand, is actually a crazed serial killer who murders prostitutes. She helps the authorities arrest him, and he is sent to a hospital for the criminally insane. Just when she's starting to get her life back together, she learns that he's escaped from the institution and is after her.
Anyway enough about the influences and background of the release lets move onto the seared, but very textural rewarding sonics inside. The single track on offer here comes in just over the thirty minute mark and is built around different speeds, patterned and static textured tones rubbing and interlocking together to make a very appealing and moving wall of sound. The ‘wall’ is built around a mixture of : purring judder, fazing static crisp grain, drilling caustic drone, cluttering or slow rain storm bound static dwells, and really all manner of textured static bound battering. The track keeps nicely thick and smothering through-out, but the ‘walls’ textured layer mix often switches and alters every few minutes or so, but it mangers to keep urgent, tense and tight through-out. All told it’s a highly consistent and rewarding ‘wall’.
This release came out at the start of 2009 ,and it seems the project has done nothing since- so whether the project is no more or just in limbo for the moment is unclear. But with ‘walls’ this enjoyable & textural shifting lets hope it’s the latter of the two. Really if you’re a ‘wall’ fan of textural active HNW this is a must have…but act quick as its ltd to criminal 15 copies!
