Gerritt — Space Level Blaze

Space Level Blaze is Gerrit’s first  CD release under his own name, though he has released a vinyl LP and a few splits , along with collaborations with Sunno)))) and appeared on the Merzbow’s Frog remix album. What’s on offer here is cut up layers of crashing and textured noise, making a highly enjoyable audio attack.

The first track offers up manic screams against, circles of grinding static and a modified choir like swelling of voices, the grinding really is very effective, hit you again and again. Untitled track three starts up with an airplane coming down sound, that's twisted into odd shapes, morphing into heavy rhythmic clusters. Untitled four – the longest on offer here at eight minutes. Mixes run down the plug  sound with snoring, and an odd rhythmic element, hit with burst of random static. As the track tone switches at the near half way point, you get a great cranked up sci fi effect, it feels like you been landed on by hundreds of space ships. It also has a vibe of sinister goings on, maybe alien experiments. You can almost imagine coming round, to find dripped greyed fleshed humanoid faces, staring down at you, strange surgical tools, clasped in their webbed hands. Untitled track five  is collaboration between Gerrit and John Wiese, really has a great feeling of hectic cinematics, with chanted voices, and oily melody, abused by shoves of rhythmic noise,making a wonderful dense track.

All in a captivating noise ride, touching down texturally in lots of different places, in it’s just over 20 minutes running time.
