Frode Haltli — Passing Images
The albums tracks wonderfully seesaw from traditional composition that takes in the flavours of; jazz, classical grace, folk and traditional Norwegian melodies. And more experimental side that takes in; improv, modern composition and subtle but never too harsh noise elements. With the tracks going from being; haunting, rich, mysterious and melodic to playful, quirky and flamboyant. All parties here perform with real flare, grace and emotion or playful and creative intent when needed. With Maja Solveig Kjelstrup Ratkje vocal performance giving a wonderful lining to the tracks with harmonic wistfulness and soaring grace, to frightening sheiks/weird mutterings and playful vocalising.
An album that effortless dancers from great elegance, emotional and harmonic grace to jester like quirkiness and sonic creativity. Embracing the past & tradition yet at the same time also embracing original composition and sonic invention too.
