Forest Jackson — Cymbalism

Forest Jackson is  Hanno Leichtmann’s new project. Leichtmann  released Nuit Du Plomb, A rather nice retro- beat ambient album recently under his own name. Cymbalism is a much darker, denser  & urbanised  beast, than Nuit Du Plomb. Rippled with dark alleyway muscular beats and tigth edgey snthy scapes. Leichtmann proves he has the ability to shapeshift  with the best of them.

Cymbalism is  much like Nuit Du Plomb in the way it has a wonderfull flow and easy to tracks, they neatly lead on from each other. As if a soundtrack to some Blade runner like sci-fi thriller- all twisted neon and buzzing technology, shadowy androids waiting on street Connors for their hit, jabbering  aliens troll the smog clogged, glass and steel lined streets.

Can’t get used to it  feel like Yellow reborn in a glitch and noisy electro  future, mixed with soundtrack loops. with a great knife edge tuneful feel, and spoken dialogue. Electron finds denser head snapping electro funk, machine beats linked to a nice heavy bassy vibe- tried to by meloncoly vibe work, both sleek and atmospheric in its delivery- much like the entire album.

Really a treat for those who enjoy uptight, atmospheric  electroncai – with enough surprising edges and  musically turns to keep you interested through out. Can’t wait to see what Leichtmann’s throws our way next. Though quite what the project name Forest Jackson- relates to it all is unclear, that name conjures up a Folktrotnic project-clearly not what we have here .
