Enbilulugugal — Noizemongers for Goatserpent
To begin, you have to have a soft spot in your black metal heart for a band that states, “We hope you fucking hate it!” Just try. Not easy. Enbilulugugal is a messy union of early French Black Metal (Black Murder and Vlad Tepes) with early Havohej, Beherit, Mezerbow and Churner. Interested? You probably should be. The first 29 tracks on the original Rusty Axe release of Noizemongers for Goatserpent are a high pitched-vocal, Les Legions Noires, noisy and staticy extravaganza. Yet wait until “”OrtuO” through “ortnl”, these songs are from TnepreStaoG rof sregnomizioN (guess what that spells backwards) album remixed by Izedis. Here we have a really cool riot of electronic noise. Things also get interesting around track “Charred Goat Remains” through “The Cause of it All”, an explosion of awesome heavy, dirty, punk infused raw black metal.
“His Descent Into the Depths” finishes it all with a subtle dark ambient bent, not at all what is to be expected from such a diverse release (or re-release as the case may be) but it works, it’s good and that’s all that matters.
While digging through so much material is a bit daunting, it’s an interesting trip. For those who like their black metal raw and dirty, they’d be well advised to pick this up; and yet anyone who likes a bit of weird noisy harsh electronic would be likewise happy to hear this as well.
Is Noizemongers for Goatserpent a memorable creation, maybe, but I doubt Enbilulugugal would care about your (or mine) opinion anyway.
