Dosis Letalis — Brain Tingle Crackle
The white labelled CDR comes in a mini plastic slip sleeve- this takes in single-sided monochrome artwork of what looks like a close-up picture of a cactus, and inside is a tracing paper inlay that features a picture of a brain alight with elector sparks, as well as a download code.
The release is split into two tracks Brain Tingle Part I & II- each of falls just sort of the ten-minute mark, and each sees a mix of rapidly feasting static blended with high pitched wavering siren waves. The first track is a mix of constantly tumbling grain feast, which is weaved with this twinkling & warbling high pitched tonal ringing. It feels akin to something slowly burning & warmingly tricking into the cannons of your grey matter, and it does definitely create a most strange feel- which makes one feel decidedly unbalanced & off-kilter.
The second track unfolds with a fairly similar blend to the first track- we have a feasting high pitched pulse and this is wrapped in a continuous flow of thin & crisp textural feasting. I’d say this track feels a little more focused & pressing in its attack, though once again it creates a most unbalancing & drilling feeling- at times it feels like the crackle maybe be faltering- but I think this is just an illusion, and the whole thing is fairly fixed.
In conclusion, this release certainly lives up to its name by slowly cooking ones brain with it's blend of waving high pitch-ness & grainy feast. It’s certainly an original & distinctive sounding release- though I’m not sure how often I can see myself returning to it, purely because of the continual focused high pitched elements- but hats off to Dosis Letalis for trying to something different within the walled/ textured noise genre.
