Doomed Life — No Truck Summer
No Truck Summer severs up a single thirty-minute slice of thickly spinning, churning & aquatically boiling walled noise from this Saarbrücken, Germany-based project.
The digital release appears on Scranton, South Carolina Dying Monolith HNW. The cover artwork takes in a rather surprising/ ill fitting picture of a body of water & thick green forest on a sunny day- maybe something terrible happened here?
Anyway, Doomed Life has seemingly been active since 2024- it’s fronted by a trans woman, and the project's Bandcamp says “project that deals exclusively with my transition and how society deals with it”. To date, it’s released around fifteen releases, and as far as I recall, this is my first taster of its work.
The track comes in at dead on the thirty-minute mark, and what we have here is a very dense & totally unrelenting example of the walled-noise form. It’s built around a blend of a manically rolling/ tumbling bass tone, slight rattling ‘n’ knocking clutter, and very rapid spinning texture- which at points feels like it’s almost boiling over.
Taking in the textural weave, the rapidity/ denseness of the wall, & the riverside picture here, I’m getting images of someone semi-conscious being dragged along by a speedboat- the boat engine is roaring at top gear-its blades chopping & simmering the water, as the body bucks 'n' bashes the water's surface.
I was most impressed by No Truck Summer, as it’s a very dense/ brutal wall, which features some distinctive / less run of the mill textures. I’ll most certainly be checking out some more of Doomed Life’s work.
