Dissecting Table — Early Studio works 1986/87
Having only heard bit ‘n’ bobs of Dissecting Tables work in the past I didn’t know quite what to expect, but this is a really strange puppy of an collection. I guess I imagined his work to be more noisy and sure there are noise elements here but this certainly has more of a deranged music sense to it then say any of his fellow Japanese noiseters such as Aube, Merzbow , ect. A few choice moments come in the form of the opener Human rights which is a mix of sinister bass synth wonderings, swirling noise textures and lo-fi percussion, doomy hornwork along with disturbing muffled singing. But ever so often it explodes in guttural yells and barks over crashing doom/grindcore work-outs. The track Camouflage is a mix of 80’s snyth funk tones, barked vocals, searing industrial noise poundings-all managing a very strange mix of cheesiness and brutality. Clean up it all with it’s clanking and dense industrial tribalism, searing noise grates/ shafts, guttural vocal attack and chanting monks sample. It all sounds like the soundtrack to some bizarre and deranged ritual sacrifice taking place in a steel factory.
Really a wonderfully bizarre and very one off collection of tracks that remains rewarding and very strange through-out. With the disk been packaged in a rather fitting oversize sleeve that folds out into a mini dingy psychedelic poster.
