Decadent Evil — Decadent Evil( Blu Ray)
From the early 2000’s Decadent Evil sits at the sleazier and bloody end of Charles Bands huge filmography. It brings together bloody throat rippings, darkly glamours female vamps, randy Homunculus, and little person vampire hunter played by Phil Fondacaro (Troll, Ghoulies II, Willow). Here from Full Moon Features is a Blu Ray release of the film.
Decadent Evil is from the year 2005, and it was the twenty fourth film from Mr Band. I’d hope if your reading M[m], and enjoy cult film you’ll be more than well aware of Mr Band. Since he racked up one hundred and twelve directing credits, and aside from Roger Corman he’s the most well known of all of the modern b-moive directors/ producers. He has a real penchant for puppets/ small creatures in his films, and more often than not these films sit at the more playful, fantasy, and low gore side of genre films.
Decadent Evil runs at one hour and eighteen minutes, and we open with way too long pre-credits, which with the credits take up ten minutes. These relate to a male vampire who used rule the roost, and how he ousted.
Anyway when get back to present time/ day- we meet a suited man encouraging his girlfriend to go into dark/red lit pole dancing club. She understandable is none to keen- but he keeps pushing. In front of them is a naked woman working the pole, then another woman, Spyce (Raelyn Hennessee) offers to give the already on edge woman a lap dance- initially she says no, but her boyfriend pushes…and there start making out, with both parties enjoying it.
So Spyce suggests they all head back to her place to carry on the fun….her ‘place’ is a large red light & flaming candelabra dotted house, and just as everyone getting down to it. The lady of the house, Morella (Debra Mayer) appears, inutally she’s none to pleased- but gets pulled into the four way….but just before things can get started, the thoats of the couple are brutally slashed, and drunk down with dark abounded by Spyce and Morella .
It of course turns out both women are vampries- with Morella been the head of the group, she’s been alive for hundreds of years, and is just a few victims away from becoming all powerful.
Also in the story we have, Sugar(Jill Michelle) another vamp/ pole dancer who is less keen on blood letting, her human boyfriend Dex (Daniel Lennox), black hatted ‘n’ beared vampire hunter Ivan(Fondacaro), and lastly is Marvin- a part human/part reptile creature, who lives in a cage, and most egger to get out and indulge in flesh bound pleasures.
Aside from the back story packed/ confusion pre credits, Decadent Evil unfolds in a entertaining manner. All of the cast, aside from Michelle whose rather flat/ vapid, is good nicely hamming things up. The puppet effects for Marvin are decent- he’s like a deep red skinned/ long black haired, and licking tongue demon thing. We get a fair bit of female topless nudity, as well as lots of spraying red stuff- I guess the only disappoint for vamp fans, is you never see the vampire deaths on screen. If you enjoy the more sleaze ‘n’ blood bound side of Mr Bands output- Decadent Evil will be your thing.
This region free Blu Ray takes in a good looking remastered print- with clear definition in both picture and the audio. No new extras unfortunately, as it’s good to hear a Band commentary- as he always informative/ entertaining , but I understand he can’t manage to do these for every film.
We get two archive extras- Blood, Sweat, and Fear (16.24) this making off takes in interviews with Band, and most of the cast. As well, as some behind the scenes footage. We find out Band came up with the idea for the film after visiting a strip joint with some friends, and it was shot in six days. One of the locations was a ex funeral home, and dyed red maple syrup was used for blood. A blooper reel( 4.24), and trailer reels.
It’s great to see more of Mr Bands back catalogue been reissued, and if you dig his darker more flesh bound tendencies, then Decadent Evil will appeal. With a nice scan, and small selection of worthy archive extras.
