Debris Inc. — s/t
You take Dave Chandler, riffmaster with Saint Vitus. You take Ron Holzner, groovemaster with Trouble. They get together and ask some of their friends to join up with them. Friends? Yes, and not nobodies: recently deceased Barry Stern (drums, ex-Trouble, RIP), the great Jimmy Bower (Eyahategod, Superjoint Ritual, COC), Greg Rogers (Goatsnake) and Joe Nunez (November’s Doom). There you go, a supergroup in the making, and a heavy one at that.
You expect something really dirty, and slow and loud, something real mean. That’s not what you get. Surprises ain’t a bad thing, on the contrary, they are really pleasant if the music is good. Unfortunately, Chandler decided to get out of the closet and reveal is love for punk.
The two third of this CD is just made of an endless list of punk for drunkard, sing-a-long anthems. Really piss poor. Of course, you luckily get a couple of decent tracks, with a little more blues, more heaviness, slower, you know songs where the spirits of both Trouble and Saint Vitus seem half alive. The beasts are not dead yet, but they certainly are endangered. Of course with this type of records, you don’t expect great production. Everything here is a bit lofi, which I have no problems with. But they are sort of crossing the line when their drum parts seem to have been recorded on the big stage of Graspop Metal meeting, a sound that comes haunting me in my worst metal nightmares.
Oh well, at least some of the song titles are funny: Too many mushrooms on my pizza, You’re the reason I’m medicated or I feel like shit again.
