Dead Voices on Air — Falls the Eventide
The first disc of ‘Fast Falls The Eventide’ contains 15 tracks of atmospheric electronic music that projects a cinematic ambiance mostly coming in under three minutes, varying in style, but featuring some interesting approaches. While certain aspects of this album were not very entertaining to listen to, I felt the songs that focused on droning seemed to be the easiest to listen to as the tracks that featured percussion contained at least one awkward element that threw off the vibe I thought the track was going for, instead it was disorienting and offered little entertainment value to this albums varied styles. The title track was definitely the most pleasing track to listen to as it was exceptionally composed of ethereal drones and hollow sound maintained uplifting moods throughout its twenty minute duration.
Moving forward to the second disc I was pleased to hear more dark ambient/industrial oriented tracks than the first disc. The first of the tracks stood out as the heaviest and was followed up by a gritting raw synth track that had a darkened vibe to it. Tracks on this disc ranged in heaviness, psychedelia, atmospheric vibration and were mostly similar to the droning tracks on the first disc only the lengths were much longer. Simply put the second disc was more refined and had a more approachable atmosphere than the first.
The collections artwork does looks like something that belongs on an emo record, but doesn’t necessarily ‘not fit’ the music contained here. All told this is a rewarding if mixed collection.
