Damien De Coene — Virtue Wall: Chastity

It’s always nice to have new material from talent wall noise & grim drone maker Flanders based noisemaker Damien De Coene. And Virtue Wall: Chastity is the first in a series of Seven releases of wall noise releases focusing on the Capital Virtues, as set by Pope Gregory I in AD 590. The digital release features one twenty seven-minute track, and what we have is a fairly rapid and lightly roasting example of the wall noise genre.

This is a self-release, and it features a theme fitting picture of a wooden female mannequin with an old fashioned leather chastity belt and stocking ‘n’ suspenders on. After this, we’ll have releases focused on the other six Capital Virtues: temperance, charity, diligence, patience, kindness, and humility. To download this release, head by Damien’s Bandcamp here.

The single and self-titled track clocks in at just shy of the thirty-seven-minute mark. It starts as a fairly set and simple blend of rapidly rolling rumble, smaller cluttering crispness, and a distant sort of bumbling knock. As we move on the bumbling ‘n’ knocking sub-tones- seemingly shift and ebbing, with at points the feeling of a fair bit of movement occurring beneath the rapid mass- which of course is most fitting for the theme of this track.

On my first few plays through of this track, I‘ll have to admit feeling somewhat disappointed- as it felt maybe a little too basic/ simple in its make-up. But once I homed in on the wayward rumble-I very much got pulled into the tracks bleak rotating and lightly flaming attack.

I’ll certainly be looking forward to the next in this series of releases- and I’d say if you like subtly, yet rewarding noise in the walled side of things then you’ll equally find worth/ interest here.
