Carrion Black Pit — The Living Dead And The Dead Living Become All The
The release comes in the form of a CDR, and it offers up three tracks which last between just under the fifteen minute mark & just over the nine minute mark- with a total running time of just shy of the thirty five minute mark for the whole release. All three tracks are best described as active HNW, with some Harsh noise & moody yet brutal noise bound experimental touches.
Opening up the release we have “Crawling Horror”, which is the longest track here at 14.26 mark. The track conists of a mixture of billowing, juddering & roasting noise textures, with a grim under current. The track title is a little miss leading, as you’d expect a slow & lumbering pace- but this is rapid in it’s attack …I guess it be better to call it something like ‘rabid horror’. The ‘wall’ brutally mixes together a selection of mid to semi high tones, and these rage along at a fairly speedy & manic level. The tracks make-up moves along in a fairly active manner with the ‘wall’ altering say every few minutes, yet the ‘wall’ never easers down or loses it rabid attack…only at the start & end of the track for more brooding noise channelling.
Track two is entitled “It Came From the Abyss”, and once again this is a fairly active slice of HNW- through it does become semi fixed in places. It moves from the opening billow & descending grey cyclone type vibe, onto more grim white-outs of eerier almost ANW dips, through to a mixture of jittering tentacle like static texturing over a billowing semi Harsh noise back drop- the last ‘wall’ stays in place longest from around the two thirty mark to the eight minute mark when it adds in a few higher ranged sears. But even in the less active dwells there are still some subtle textural shifts here & there. The track ends in an effective creepy yet violent manner with a mixture of juddering & chattering noise textures that are mixed with horror fed harmonic noise texturing.
Lastly we have “The Colour of Out Of Space”- this is the extra track not on the orignal release, & of course it takes it’s name from the great HP Lovecraft story of the same name. The Lovecraft story told of an alien meteorite that crash lands on a famers property, and slow infects & changes the family running the farm. The just under eleven minute track mixes together juddering ‘n’ boring walled noise textures with this great eerier alien sounding harmonic noise billow ‘n’ jittering tone. This track is a bit more fixed in it’s feel, but there are some nice subtle textural layer shifts along the way. For me this is the most effective out of the three tracks, as it both perfectly fits the tracks theme & it’s a damn effective/ brutally eerier slice of wall making.
So in conclusion this is an effective enough opening shot from this project, and the last track is worthy of purchase alone…through the other tracks do feel a little unfocused in place, but I guess you expect that to a certain extent with a début release. Of course this project went onto make damn effective HNW horror themed classic like the excellent “Mythos” which appeared on Bored Bear recording & made album of the month @ M[m] back in mid 2011.(This release can now be downloaded for free here )
