Boar/Mass Graves — Split

Here’s a split CD that brings together two dense & darkly mood yet brutal slices of walled noise from these two USA scene veterans.  Featured here is Dubuque Iowa based Boar- whose been active since 2009, and Missouri Mass Graves- whose been active since 2010.

Each project offers up a ‘wall’ of around the twenty minute mark- so the disc has a total running time of forty minutes. First up we have Boar’s track which is bleakly entitled “I Want To Erase Every Human Emotion”. This track brings together a constant line of low/condensed rumbling & simmering static- which is weaved with a selection of thinner ‘n’ crisper skipping, pelting & jittering noise textures. These elements come together to create a crudely eerier, searing yet kind of creepy( through brutal) vibe.

Secondly we have the Mass Grave track, and this is entitled “The Forest Ghoul”. The track follows a similar path to the Boar track- as it’s built around continual rolling out grim noise texture- we have a set faint & muffled grey rumble & almost organic type bubbling tone, and around this is a uniformed mesh of pelting & coldly showering static crisp-ness. This track once again is rather eerier in a brutal & unrelenting way.

Both tracks here are fairly simple in their textural make-up, yet they are both quite darkly moody & entrancing too. Fitting the more atmospheric yet seared feel of both tracks the CD takes in lo-fi monochrome pictures of woodland, and grim minimal white text on pure black backgrounds- bringing to mind almost a stark underground black metal vibe to the packaging.

Unusually for the walled noise scene this release comes in the form of a pro pressed CD, so I’m guessing this going to be a lot less ltd than most of the scene out-put, which normally sees releases coming in  around 5 to 30 copies for each release. So all been well you should still be able to snag a copy of this, and it’s certainly worth a look if you enjoy bleak, slightly eerier yet still brutal walled noise.
