Blood Bitch Baby — Blood Bitch Baby (Blu Ray)
Blood Bitch Baby is somewhat of a micro low-budget fever dream/ cheapy blood-tinged cinematic trip. It brings together a large-breasted/razor-toothed Elizabeth Bathory, a baby dinosaur demon, creepily awkward/ pushy characters, ranting/paranoid monologues, nudity, and throat ripping ‘n’ eye munching gore. The 2024 production is from long-running US zero-budget horror director Donald Farmer. Here from Blood Sick Productions is a Blu-ray release of the film.
Mr Farmer has been active since the early 80’s, making cheap & gory fare with an often very sleazy/ awkward edge. To date, his filmography on IMDB lists forty-six credits, though oddly not this film. His titles include the likes of Cannibal Hookers (1987), Scream Dream (1989), Red Lips (1995), Shark Exorcist (2014), and Scream Queens Weenie Roast (2025).
The one-hour and eight-minute film opens fairly disorienting - first up, we get pre-credits where we meet the large-breasted, tall, and teeth-gnashing Elizabeth Bathory (Jessa Flux), who is talking about what if the original Elizabeth Bathory from the 17th century was still alive. Then we get grainy/ yet colourful credits. Before we drop down into a nighttime street- where a large-breasted/ tattooed woman is running from something or someone- she runs up a staircase to what looks like the back of a theatre- here another woman seemingly lifts her onto her toe end, throws her down, then vomits blood on her.
Next, we see our lead character, Jenny (Angel Nichole Bradford), awaking, claiming what we just saw was a dream, but she is neither of the women in said dream?!. She is a decidedly pale/downtrodden character, who is living with a decidedly treating/ always wanting money middle-aged male partner.
Anyway, as things unfold, Jenny goes for a job with Elizabeth, supposedly to look after her large, tattooed and raw meat munching sister. We meet an ageing/ blunt female cop, who appears in two scenes, and never again. Characters have ranting/paranoid monologues while driving alone. Jenny suddenly falls pregnant and gives birth to a dino demon. We meet a few odd/ pushy characters. There are more than a few flashes of female flesh and moments of gore- most impressive of the latter is gouging out then eating of an eye.
The whole film has a decidedly woozy & uneasy feel, which is enhanced by the warbling, wavering, and angular plucking score. Our cast is fine for ultra-low budget fare- Flux hams it up well as the often topless/ blood splashed Bathory. And Angel Nichole Bradford has a good expressive face/ sells her character well enough- she’s somewhat of a prolific low-budget powerhouse, with forty six acting credits since the early 2020’s. I also enjoyed her in last year's Venus DIE-Trap.
I’d say Blood Bitch Baby is something you could see Jess Franco making if he were still alive, as it tries to go for that dreamlike/ unreal quality he had in many of his films. Though of course he didn’t have an obsession with large-breasted/ tattooed women, baby dino demons, and uncomfortable monologues.
On the extras side, we have Director's Introduction by Donald Farmer with Kasper Meltedhair( 3.49) he talks about how the idea for the film came about, other neat Countess Bathory films, and the picture's effects. There’s an image gallery and a selection of Blood Sick Productions.
Blood Bitch Baby will appeal to those who enjoy their horror low-budget, wonky, uneasy/awkward- with a fair bit of sleaze, blood, & gore. Another worthy release from the up & coming Blood Sick Productions label.
