Big Hole — Dread

Dread is a self released CDR from Denton Texas based walled noise project Big Hole, and it offers up a single  just over forty minute track of thick & unrelenting walled noise.

The release comes in a clear plastic slip sleeve which takes a two monochrome sleeves- the front cover features a stark picture of telephone pole lined landscape, and on the back we get the albums  track listing/ credits in lo-fi type writer font.

The single track here starts with a dialogue sample, with someone talking about dread been all about sustaining a note. Then we are into the ‘wall’ which is a rapidly paced yet  fairly structurally firm ‘wall’ that brings together several layers of chugging stream like static, which is underfed by a ‘rolling over boards’ background juddering texture. The whole thing brings to mind a  steam train rushing non-stop on & on down a track- on the whole it’s a lively & engrossing enough wall, though I’m not sure it really brings to mind dread( well not for me anyway).

So in summing up  what we  have here is  a rapid yet firm bit of wall-making which comes in at a mid length runtime wise- the texture used & their setting are appealing enough, through there nothing very original about it. All in all an acceptable, though not particularly special release from Big Hole
