Acid Mothers Temple & the Melting Parais — IAO Chant From The Melting Paraiso Underground Fre
The track covered here originally appeared back on Gong’s 1974s classic space rock/ psychedelic ambient album “You”(which was the third in the original & infamous Planet Gong trilogy of albums), but it has been re-played many, many times by Gong themselves in a live setting over the years.
First up we have “Om Riff Drom the Melting Paraiso U.F.O, Pt. 1”, and this starts out with a dense & galloping brew of repetitive & rolling space bound rock guitar riffing, chanted amassed vocals, and swirls of ATM intergalactic synth texturing. As the track progresses more & more layers of soloing guitar, spacey synth trails, and searing space feed back are added into the track to create a fairly typical ATM free fall - though the simple galloping riff & chanted vocals are always just kept at the edge of the track. By around the 10th minute it started to feel quite Hawkwind like as the snyth had an almost spacey flute feel to it. At 12th minute it starts to get more dense riff like with several guitars mimic the original riff patterns as the chanted vocals disappear, and more layers of synth space-ness are added
Secoundly we have “Om Riff Drom the Melting Paraiso U.F.O, Pt. 2”, and this starts out in quite a reform manner with a loose mix of wailing female vocals, searing & forking lead guitar trails, and scuttling ‘n’ clunking percussion freefalls. At the just over the three minute track the repetitive main riff kicks in, and the guitars & synths start to wildly sear, swirl & dart around the main riff, in a much more manic & urgent manner than the first version of the track. As the track progresses in continues with it’s repetitive & swirling locking riff pattern, but this version certainty seems more firm ‘n’ focused in it’s looped & urgent krautrock type feel with the riff been layered & layered up & up. In it’s last six or so minutes the track starts to become more solo guitar seared & overtly dense as ATM really do almost go into complete jam free fall, with just the very edges of the original riff structure in place- track ends with just a single gold ray of synth/guitar drone.
So by the deliberately focused & repetative nature of offering up two different jam based version of the same track, this is certain one of the least varied ATM releases you are likely to come across. But somehow ATM do mange to (just) keep ones attention though-out, so if you enjoy this project when they are deep in dense & spiralling jam out mode- this is worth a look, but this is certainly not for to newbie’s to the ATM cause
