Acid Mothers Temple — Acid Motherly Love
This stands as a good if not great album from this Japanese psychedelic collective, that sadly as often is the way with Acid Mothers Temple material gets a little too sonically overcrowded and overloaded for its own good. With their production returning somewhat to its muffed and muddled usually self after the excellent production on this years early Crystal Rainbow Pyramid under the Stars release. Highlights for me are the second epic track Douchebag which starts off with mock tongue in cheek American hippy spoken word elements - acoustic guitars repetition , spacey sntyhs, pipe organ wonder and male chanting. Before jumping into a churning and a little discordant 70’s rock jam like a less polished & a little tinny King Grimson meets psychedelic rock, with all manner of swirling and twinkling synth, dada vocals and singing elements before dropping down into drumless sensual spacey female spoken word, guitar soling and spacey electronic swirls. Also the last track Johnny Johnny Jerusalem built around bizarre sometimes comical layers of demented barber shop/ chanting, harmonizing.
So it’s really down to how much patience and time you have for the Acid Mothers Temple as to how much you’ll going enjoy this. Certainly not one for Acid Mothers Temple virgins, but those who have more than three or four albums in their collection will surely find this rewarding enough.
