Abismo — Sendero Luminoso
In fact, I expected classic messy South American full band ruido / barulho from this tape, but instead I got a quite varied and inventive noise/experimental full length.
First track "123.CFR.718" revolves around a redundant synth loop and psychedelic distorted guitar shredding, and it sounds a bit like a mix of European power electronics and Japanese guitar noise. Not a bad track, but nothing memorable.
The following track "M.D.M.A. (Mi Dios Me Ama)" crosses into power electronics territory, with its recurrent, powerful low frequency synth thumps, its crackles and hisses, and its trademark vocal samples of sex and abuse. Again, an ok track, ruined maybe by unwanted digital distortion.
"La sangre llama" is a fairly good mix of digital noise (mainly hisses of various tonality) and guitar abuse. It's probably one of my favorite tracks of the bunch, since it's simply noise.
Fifth track, "Caida" , is based on a psychedelic synth line similar to the one on "123.CFR.718" and on vocal samples seemingly about religious fanaticism. It doesn't sound bad but it's not something that will stick in my head.
The best title award of this release definitely goes to side B-opener "Vandalismo Sonoro Contra El Oido De La Humanidad", which features a good throbbing p.e. synth line and overly echoed vocals. The vocal delivery and the simple synth variations made me think about old Con-Dom tapes. Nice stuff, I wish more of "Sendero Luminoso" was in the same style.
"Genesis De Reyes Y Reinas" offers more guitar/computer psychedelic drone noise that probably would be considered great if it was recorded by Fennesz. It's ok but it's not my cup of tea. The conclusive "La Muerte De La Carne Y La Resucitacion Del Alma" is again based on drone-y synth and vocal samples, bringing nothing new to the table.
"Sendero Luminoso" is an ok release for what it is, but the extreme length of some of its tracks and the occasional digital clipping prevented me from fully enjoying it. Abismo has some good ideas but he needs to focus more on composition and cut away some unnecessary parts
