Andy Ortmann - Nightmania [Nihilist Records - 2005]Nightmania literally Finds the listener inside of Mr Ortmann’s dreams and I can safely say, it’s one of oddest , bad acid like , skin crawling creepy, nausea inducing audio trip's I’ve been on, in some time, maybe ever!. All I can say is I’m glad I don’t live In Mr Ortmanns dreams. With the cd comes a booklet with illustration of each dream that the audio track relates to, the illustration them self are pretty strange, but just wait till you hear the sound paintings them self’s. Ortmann utilizing sick drone elements, nerve jarring noise, sinister rythmic mutterings, burn –your- skin- off seething banks of static, bizzaro samples, 80’s horror moive synthesizer, that really sound seriously creeped out. There something about the way Ortmann puts sound together that’s so repellent yet captivating at the same time. The listener almost feels like the character from Dario Argento's horror movie opera, where needles are stuck under their eyes to stop them from shut , Nightmania seems to do the same to your ears. The first track mixes bent electronics, ritual gong pounding, face forced into a sink, crippling noise with layered mix of laughter and crying. The track ends with Ortman mixing the sound of aroused female, and sound of a mooing cow, that mangers to make you feel very much on edge. Track three is a heady concoction of stretched morbid synth tones, bubbling and dripping sounds, and almost dub like bass fluttering. As the track proceeds the sound of looped shutting door noise or something been choped over andover is added. Along with random creepy Uttering's and nightmare melodic bubbling- that is hovered over by the sound of a chainsaw! Really this is one of the most demented albums I’ve heard, balancing between audio genius and pure madness. All I can advise is don’t play before settling down to sleep.
