Hoor-paar-Kraat - Mercurial Little Jitterbug [Goat Eater - 2006]

Mercurial Little Jitterbug is another puzzling and oddly rewarding entry in bizarre sound world of  Hoor-paar-Kraat, where little makes sense here in a conventional sense. We are present with five audio art forms, that utilizing layered found and environmental sounds, drone textures and an odd ritual air, that are somehow very appealing. Hoor-paar-Kraat mangers to paint your Listening space with a very bizarre other worldly edge.

Jump into the Box with Me, opens the album up with a mix a scribbling or writing sounds, that become more rapid and layered  giving the feeling of several hands writing cryptic ramblings all over your head.  Next is A Bottle of Light in the Hand which mixes together two looped bird sound, far off traffic drone and a foreign child shouting. Slowly more elements appear like odd ritual percussions, another low drone, distant announcements. The drone patterns surface then disappear once more as do the percussive matter as it flick over stereo channels. The only constant element is the birds and the low traffic like drone.

A Sudden Attack of Conscience is next become a bit more musically , there’s a low down harmonic drone all manner of strange drip and tilting of liquid and a far off piano playing, again very strangely hypnotic and oddly captivating. Next is A Sudden Attack of Conscience which is the longest track here at ten minutes- it’s starts off with the sound of money counting and moving , before a boiling kettle like sound appears, then a blowing flute like tone as well, as all manner of strange rustling, dragging ect. Towards the end it gets relatively agitated with all the elements become more active and this strange sort of aliening chattring over the top. Lastly we have I Wonder Whether You Know What You're Doing? Which introduces more wired tapping elements and dark monk like chanting been moved around the stereo channels to give quite a odd 3D feel. Later a struck bell tone appears and the monk chanting becomes more dense. All building a very odd eerier atmosphere.

Hoor-paar-Kraat has managed with this and his other releasers to build a very odd and surreal ritual touched sound world all of his own. That will interest fans of weird ambience, puzzling audio worlds and surreal sound  play.
