Vomir / Pudern - Vomir / Pudern [Geräuschmanufaktur - 2016]Here are two short, but highly effective shots of walled noise barbarism. This C20 takes in two side long slices of crude, suffocating, and totally nihilistic wall-craft. Featured here we have the master of unchanging wall-nastiness Vomir, and scene newcomer Polish project Pudren…with both parties offering up suitably crushing 'n' searing slabs of HNW bleak-ness. The release appears on well respected German noise label Geräuschmanufaktur, who in recent years have been releasing a lot of great HNW releases. The tape appears in a edition of 30 copies, and the single sided monochrome cover takes in cut-up porn art work, and bleak typewriter like text minimal text against clear black & white backgrounds. Both tracks here are untitled, and first up on side A we have Vomir’s track. And as expected his track is another slice of no-nonsense, brutally blunt, and crudely pummelling walled noise. The ‘wall’ brings together a blend of mid-paced spurting juddering, with an undercarriage of lose & distant rumble- all topped off with a more rapid crisp yet crude jittering. The whole thing brings to mind images of graffiti strew, bleakly rundown, yet still active underground tube line- the stark throbbing sound of the passing trains, and the distant stinking spurts of a broken sewage main. I really like way the track managers to feel both urgent, yet bluntly sludgy at the same times. All in all I must say this is one of the best ‘wall’s I've from the project in sometime. So flipping over to side B, we have the Pudren track, and seemingly this is the projects first release( as I was unable to find any others either on discogs, or online generally). Apparently the project is a one-man venture from Poland, and seemingly it’s played live- as there are pics & footage on-line of this. Anyway after the urgent yet crude pummel of the Vomir track, this track is a more focused blend of rapid ‘wall-craft’. It brings together a taut map of chopping, spinning, & pelting noise textures- these fall between battering yet tight mid range tones, thinner spiralling circles of static, and more ripped sub-tones. The whole thing has a nice blend of both rapidly drilling persistence, and worthy textural detail blend. Again it’s another great ‘wall’, and if in reality this is the projects first release it’s even more impressive. All in all I think this must stand as one of the best splits from with-in the ‘wall’ scene this year. Vomir is on top form, presenting the listener with a really Stella example of his brand of crude & unrelenting wall-making. And Pudren offers up a equally great wall- focusing more of drilling precision & rewarding textural blend. As I mention above this is only ltd to 30 copies- so I’d advise getting this sooner, than later…as anything with the Vomir name on disappears quick!. Roger Batty
