RRR - Obscene Death Pulsion [Required Rate of Return - 2015]Obscene Death Pulsion offers up two slices of oppressive, grimy, and unrelenting wall craft from this French project. The release comes in either a CDR, or a digital download- I’m reviewing the CDR version. The disc comes in a DVD case which features a black & white sleeve that takes in a grim picture of either a unconscious or dead female body laying by an graffiti covered wall in a abounded rubbish strewn waste land- suitable nasty/sleazed imagery for two suitable nasty/sleazed ‘walls’. Each of the tracks here comes in just over the nineteen minute mark, and the first of these is the title track- it’s built around a locked down throbbing synth tone, which is tightly wrapped by a tight noose of jittering ‘n’ chopping static. The synth tone has a great meaty sort of sleazy bulldozer like purr about it, while the static tone is simply yet effective in it’s taut constrictive feel. There’s nothing fancy or sophisticated about this ‘wall’- it’s just pressing, grimy & very nasty. Track two comes in the form of “Dirty Sex”, and it very much fits its name. It’s built around a rapid mid range jumping or stabbing pattern, which under fed by a taut ‘n’ bobbing meat-ness. The whole thing just relentless pounds on & on at you with it unflinching & sleazed brutality. Once again there’s nothing clever or thought-out about this track- it just simply head-fucking in it’s oppressive nastiness. This is my first taster of this projects work, and I must say I was quite taken by the whole grim, nasty yet moorish feel of both ‘walls’ presented here. So if you’re in the mood for no-nonsense & sleazy ‘wall-craft’ this is well worth a look. Roger Batty
